Need to reach your teacher between lessons? Just head to Chat in your account on the platform. That's where you can reschedule or cancel a lesson, ask questions about the learning process, and get materials. It works both ways, so your teacher can message you too.
❓ How to message your teacher
All your conversations live in Chat in your account. Open it from the menu on the left.
To start a new conversation:
- Click + next to the search field.
- Pick the teacher you need in the New chat window.
- Type your message and hit send.
To attach a file, click the 📎 paperclip on the left of the message field.
✅ Once sent, a message can still be edited, copied or deleted.
To find an existing conversation, pick it from the list on the left, use search, or switch between the All, Unread and Archive tabs.
📩 If a message stays unread in Chat, we'll send you an email about it.
💬 Who you can chat with
Chat connects the teacher, the student and the student's parents. It opens up as soon as any lesson is scheduled with the teacher, even an intro lesson. So you can message your teacher before the first lesson to say hello and sort out the details.
When you finish studying with a teacher, the conversation stays in Chat.
If you no longer need it, move it to Archive:
- Pick the conversation
- Click ... on the right and choose Archive.
✅ The conversation has moved to Archive.
❗️ Only the people in the conversation can see your messages, though Mathema support may review them if needed. This keeps everyone safe.
✅ What to talk about in Chat
- rescheduling or cancelling a lesson;
- questions about homework;
- learning materials and exercises;
- questions about your child's progress.
🚫 What not to send in Chat
- Personal contacts. Phone numbers, email addresses, links to messengers or social media.
- Arrangements for lessons outside the platform. This goes against Mathema's terms of service.
- Harsh or emotional comments about teachers. For tricky topics, it's worth choosing your words with care.
- Ads for third-party services.
